Aftercare Instructions & Safety Information

At Novello Skin, every treatment has its own recommended aftercare and safety considerations. Please select your treatment below to view the specific information relevant to your procedure, including what to expect, important precautions and guidance to support the best possible results.

  • Avoid touching or massaging the treated area:
This helps prevent disruption to the newly injected polynucleotides and reduces the risk of infection.
  • Limit heat exposure:
Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot baths, and intense workouts for at least 48 hours, and ideally 3 days, after the treatment.
  • Stay hydrated:
Drink plenty of fluids, especially water, to support skin hydration and the healing process.
  • Protect from the sun:
Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher daily, especially during the initial 2 weeks.
  • Avoid makeup:
Refrain from applying makeup for at least 24 hours, allowing the treated area to heal undisturbed.
  • Be mindful of skincare:
Avoid using active ingredients like retinol, tretinoin, acids, and hydroquinone for 5-7 days before and after treatment.
  • Avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise:
Limit alcohol consumption and strenuous activities for 24-48 hours to minimise swelling and bruising.
  • Monitor for side effects:
You may experience mild redness, swelling, or sensitivity for the first 48 hours. If these persist or worsen, or if you notice any other concerning signs, contact your practitioner.

Skincare Precautions:

  • Gentle cleansing: Wash the treated area with a gentle cleanser and pat dry with a clean towel.
  • Avoid harsh products: Refrain from using scrubs, exfoliants, or products with fragrances for the first few days.
  • Consider arnica cream: Arnica cream can help reduce bruising, swelling, and inflammation.

Additional Considerations:

  • Follow-up appointments:
Your practitioner may schedule a follow-up appointment to monitor your progress and address any concerns.
  • Long-term skincare:
Maintain a gentle and nourishing skincare routine to support healthy skin and preserve the results of your treatment.

Please contact Novello Skin immediately if you experience any:

  • Prolonged swelling that last more than several days
Signs of infection; redness, increased local temperature of soft tissues around injection sites, pain/ pain on touch after several days post injection, functionally affected areas (difficulty with facial expressions), increased body temperature

What to Expect, How to Care, and When to Contact

Radiesse is a powerful biostimulator dermal filler made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres. It offers both immediate volume correction and long-term collagen stimulation, making it ideal for mid-face contouring, jawline definition, hands, and more.

To ensure safe healing and optimal results, please follow the aftercare instructions below.

What to Expect After Radiesse® Treatment

You may experience some temporary effects at the injection site(s), including:

  • Mild to moderate swelling
  • Tenderness or firmness
  • Redness or slight bruising
  • A feeling of tightness or fullness in the area
  • In some cases, small lumps or nodules (usually temporary)

These side effects are usually mild and resolve within 2–7 days, however these side effects can last longer. Visible results are immediate, but the skin-smoothing and tightening benefits will continue to improve over several weeks as collagen production increases.

Radiesse® Aftercare Instructions

DO:

  • Apply a cold compress (wrapped in a clean cloth) for 10–15 minutes at a time to reduce swelling (especially in the first 24 hours)
  • Sleep with your head elevated for the first 1–2 nights if you had facial injections
  • Drink plenty of water—hydration supports healing
  • Gently massage the area only if instructed by your injector or if nodules (lumps) appear in the treated area. Please, notify your medical practitioner if nodules appear
  • It is advisable to return for routine review 4-8 weeks after the treatment with Radiesse. It is patient responsibility to make sure review is attended.
  • Avoid blood thinners unless prescribed

AVOID for 24–48 Hours:

  • Touching or pressing the treated area
  • Intense exercise, heavy lifting, or anything that increases blood flow to the face
  • Alcohol, spicy foods, or hot beverages (may increase swelling)
  • Facials, lasers, or microneedling near the treated area for at least 2 weeks
  • Makeup on broken or sensitive skin (okay after 24 hours if no irritation)

AVOID for 1 week:

  • Topical retinoids ( Vit A products in skin care)
  • Acid-based skin products and exfoliators

AVOID for 2 weeks:

  • Saunas, hot tubs, steam rooms, or long hot showers

Common Side Effects (Mild & Temporary)

  • Redness, swelling, or tenderness
  • Mild bruising at or near the injection sites
  • Firmness or small lumps under the skin (usually resolve within 1–2 weeks). If persistent lumps under skin are observed, please, contact your medical practitioner

When will I see the results?

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Future treatments

Please inform any healthcare professional treating you that you have recently received injectable treatment, particularly before undergoing dental procedures, vaccinations, surgery or other aesthetic treatments.

Always allow sufficient time between different aesthetic procedures as advised by your practitioner.

Follow-up

Some patients benefit from a review appointment to assess treatment outcomes and discuss whether additional sessions or maintenance treatments are appropriate.

If you have any questions or concerns following your treatment, please contact Novello Skin. We are here to support you throughout your treatment journey.

Medical Disclaimer

All medical aesthetic procedures carry potential risks as well as benefits. A full medical consultation, including discussion of alternative treatment options, expected outcomes and possible complications, will always take place before treatment. Results vary between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.

Off-label Use

Some skin booster treatments may be used off-label, meaning they are administered in a way that differs from the manufacturer’s licensed indication. This may include treatment of different anatomical areas or the use of alternative injection techniques based on current clinical evidence and individual patient needs.

Where an off-label treatment is recommended, this will always be discussed with you during your consultation by your prescribing medical professional. The reasons for the recommendation, available evidence, potential benefits, possible risks and alternative treatment options will be explained in full. No off-label treatment is undertaken without informed consent.
