COVID-19 policy

By: Yuliya Culley

Due to the recent event of the global COVID-19 pandemic, we incorporated the triage system for every person attending the clinic.

Understanding transmission and principles of infection control. The transmission of COVID-19 is thought to occur mainly through respiratory droplets generated by coughing and sneezing, and through contact with contaminated surfaces. The predominant modes of transmission are assumed to be droplets and contact. The incubation period is from 1 to 14 days (median 5 days).

Assessment of the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of COVID-19 cases suggests that similar to SARS, most patients will not be infectious until the onset of symptoms. In most cases, individuals are usually considered infectious while they have symptoms; how infectious individuals are, depends on the severity of their symptoms and stage of their illness.
The median time from symptom onset to clinical recovery for mild cases is approximately 2 weeks and is 3 to 6 weeks for severe or critical cases.

There have been case reports that suggest possible infectivity prior to the onset of symptoms, with detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in some individuals before the onset of symptoms. Further study is required to determine the frequency, importance and impact of asymptomatic and presymptomatic infection, in terms of transmission risks. From international data, the balance of evidence is that most people will have sufficiently reduced infectivity 7 days after the onset of symptoms. We operate on one patient at the time basis with cleaning routine and ventilating the treatment rooms between each appointment. We only can see one person at the time.
Please, attend your appointment alone. If you are accompanied and require someone to drive you to the appointment, we would be very grateful if they could wait in the car.
On arrival to the clinic, the temperature will be taken and everyone will be provided with the opportunity to use handwashing facilities and sanitisers. The face coverings will be available as a part of infection control measures to use whenever it is possible to minimise the risk of transmission.
The staff will be wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as per policies and procedures.

Social distancing
Because of the nature of medical aesthetics and cosmetic dermatology procedures, social distancing is not always possible to maintain. Hence, we try to minimise the time the patients spend in the clinic by providing initial pre-assessment through video consultation with face-to-face appointments afterward.
>Whenever it is possible, the paperwork such as medical history questionnaire, treatment information, consent forms and aftercare instructions will be sent electronically via a secure email system and feedback to our patients’ management system via a secure portal.
If using paper records, the patient may sign with their own pen and place the record face down in a tray. These records can be stored securely, for filing 72 hours later and not touched in the meantime.
If you have any additional questions to discuss, whenever it is possible, please book an initial video or phone discussion to minimise the face-to-face time during the appointment.
Risk assessment
The risk assessment will be performed after each initial consultation.
Some treatments present a higher degree of risk than others, either because of the site (close to the nose or mouth) or because they may generate aerosol, splash or plume. Risk assess and determine which treatments require specific and additional measures and which treatments cannot be offered. Also, consider the concerns staff might have and ensure measures satisfy their need to feel safe.
Payments
Payments will be taken remotely, if possible, to avoid the use of a card machine. Patients will be advised in advance.
In cases when payments cannot be taken remotely, extra infection control measures will be implemented.

Your health and wellbeing are important to us and we are always available to discuss any concerns or questions.
Thank you for understanding.
